Maybe is a picture book in progress about a very energetic cat who is
destroying the house and driving the adults crazy. They yell and scream and call the cat all
kinds of not-nice names. The little girl is the only one who understands. She is the patient
one in the family, the mature one, the one who understands that a family, with love, can contain
all its members, even an “inconvenient” family member, even one that is accused
of being an "Agent of Destruction!" The little girl also understands that names
are powerful. This story is told in only 122 words. The message is not spelled out but, I hope
the reader will find, acted out. The horizontal illustrations are intended to be double page
spreads, with an asymmetrical page break.
